A MAC address is a unique physical address assigned to each network adapter in a computer or mobile device. It is a 48-bit value, consisting of twelve hexadecimal characters. The most common format for displaying a MAC address is using six groupings of two characters separated by a hyphen or colon. i.e ab-cd-ef-12-34-56. The Media Access Control (MAC) Address is also called the physical address of a network adapter. Your MAC address is unique to your computer.
Computers, phones, and mobile devices may have more than one network adapter, and so may have more than one MAC address. On a computer with both a wired and a wireless connection (many laptops and notebooks), there will be one MAC Address for the wired (Ethernet) connection and a second MAC for the wireless connection.
